Memories, they peek at me
I brush off the abrasions they make,
as memories decided to make a come back.
What ifs took the center stage,
along with the memories hidden inside.
Unsteady heart, tearful eyes,
and evasive memories,
another night stolen,
as I shush those memories to sleep!

well expressed.. ‘to shush memories to sleep’ – really nice!!

It’s those hurtful memories that somehow comeback to haunt me rather than the happy one 😦 You have captured it perfectly through your poem. Good to read you after so long, Vinitha 🙂

The abrasions memories make… Poignant. Loved it.
I’m visiting from the A-to-Z Challenge, though I’m not sure if you’re still participating (couldn’t find the badge anywhere)—but I hope you are. Would be lovely to have more poetry this April 🙂

Yes, memories are like friends. Each one is different, some hurts, some soothes, some plays with us. 🙂 Thank you for taking time to read, Sarala.

Memories, good or bad, I believe are necessary for us. They keep us sane when the ride is unsteady. They keep us rooted. They keep us connected. What Ifs are a part and parcel of life. They help us learn. They make us evaluate. In short, a questioning mind is a sign of a healthy life. Lovely poem, Vineetha!

Memories are something we can’t take control of, aren’t they? They come when uncalled for and lingers in our head for long. Nice poem!

Yes, very true, Shalini! They pop in sometimes taking our focus away. Sometimes it is nice, sometimes not much. Thanks dear!
