She ceased to exist long before anyone realized.
Bit by bit, she changed – her humming, playfulness – it’s all part of maturity, concluded everyone. Her monotonous smile – oh, that’s just how it is, as you grow up and get busy with life, trivial things are lost and forgotten. Look at her, the graceful lady she has become, putting others ahead of her, always thoughtful!
No one realized that she ceased to exist altogether, a stranger to herself!
Welcome to the weekly series of Five Sentence Fiction. Every Tuesday I will write a micro-fiction in five sentences based on the prompt. The above story is written for the prompt LOST. Feel free to join me with your Five Sentence Fiction using Lost as prompt in the comments. I would love to read yours.
It’s sad how true this is for so many women — they lose themselves once they are either married or have children. They sacrifice their lives for others. And it’s such a shame.

So well said, Vinitha. I can almost see this woman as she goes about her life. It is something that should not happen but somehow it is the women who seem to lose their identity more often than not. Great prompt by the way!

And, that’s the sad truth of every woman’s life….well, almost every…isn’t it? We all lose that childlike joy somewhere along the way, when we are expected to ‘grow’ up and put others before us. Our joy, our happiness, our souls get lost somewhere along the way, never to be found, ever.
Beautifully written, Vinitha! I can so relate to each and every word here!
