“Try again, fail again. Fail Better.”
– Samuel Beckett
Fail better. Now that is saying something. When I began my career as a software engineer, I had this manager who always told us “Just do it, don’t try!” when we said, “will try”. His remarks used to make us feel that trying isn’t enough, that trying is an excuse to fail. I see endless possibilities in trying. I see an opportunity to give our best. A prospect to improve and a chance to learn. Failing after trying is always better than failing to try in the fear of failing.
People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.
– Isaac Asimov

Of late, I find myself in the company of people who talks non-stop about anything and everything under the sun. And if you are lucky enough you will be bombarded with advices too from these kind souls. The annoyance part is when they assume that we have no clue as to how to live by or get around without their generous advice. In such gatherings, after a while, my listening ability shuts down, switching to a smiley face screensaver and I am saved. 🙂
Silence is soothing. Enjoy it quietly.
– Yours truly 🙂
I made that up just now. It isn’t completely quiet here as I type this. The jingling sound of coins as Kanna decided to count the coins, the debating noise that defeats all other noises which comes from a national news hour segment that has got my husband’s rapt attention, the sound of keys as I type away, the sound of the hot air gifted by the fireplace and the pitter patter on our yard as the rain decided to make a play-date all day today. Finding silence in this silence-less environment is a challenge and an ability I am proud of, way too much. I am enjoying this silence, as quietly as I can.

I admire your ability to find silence in a relatively noisy environment. I wish I was able to do that. I could certainly use it. 🙂

I’m sure you will learn the art of enjoying silence amidst the noises as your kid grows up, Shantala. It becomes a necessity. 🙂

Oh yes! Silence is wonderful, filled with many possibilities. But we should not let silence steal our voice from us! 🙂

In the midst of all the noise, if we can snatch our moments of silence that’s what ensures our peace of mind and sanity – it does for me at least! I love silence any day to the noise and din around me…hope you can make the most of your minutes of peace!

Peaceful thoughts indeed after all the pointless chatter you have to hear. I think you and I are on the same wave length because I too am irritated by all those smarty pants who think they know it all.

I think being able to find that peace within ourselves even in a silence-less environment is a boon…And about those bombarding us with advice, well, I know what you mean and I also know about the smiley screensaver you are talking about but my smiley just happens to have a frown sometimes 😀
