The day started on a dull note today. It was raining heavily since early morning.

A faint sign of sun was alive somewhere beneath those dark clouds, much like hope in her mind.

All she could count on was the fact that after a heartfelt pouring, eventually the rain will stop, and then, the sun will shine again.

Today will give way to tomorrow, hope gleamed within her.

The blank page stared at him. It could very well be accepted as a sign to end his writing career before it even started.
He sighed.
A blank page is also a sign to write something, he decided.
That was the beginning of his writing career.

She looked perfect, just like the first time he met her, in a green silk saree and a slim gold necklace, simple and beautiful as always. They had spent 36 years together and he couldn’t have imagined a better partner.

Today she is leaving him. Well, her body is; her memories and the memories they built together all those years have made an everlasting impression in his heart and will stay with him forever, as a heart print that could never be erased as long his heartbeats.

He leaned down and kissed gently on her forehead as her lifeless face smiled at him for the last time.

Sharon knew he was somewhere near her. Though she couldn’t see him, she felt his presence always.

Some might even think that theirs is an unrequited love, she thought miserably. But how would anyone think that, when no one knew his existence in her life, when no one could feel his presence like she did?

How would she tell anyone about him when she couldn’t say it out loud confidently. Such was her stalker, the monster, this depression!

She knew life was not just a bed of roses. Count the blessings more often to get the prickly thorns out, she learned that early on.

Then again it wasn’t the terminal illness that killed her. The toxic relation she was in mercilessly sucked the life out of her long before her tumor proved to be fatal.

Why life was just a bed of thorns for her, remained a mystery to her.

“You should ask her.”, advised Harry.

“What if she says no?; I’m waiting for a sign.”, answered Toby.

“Don’t wait too long, I heard Dylan saying that he is her friend”, warned Harry.

“That’s the sign; I am going to ask her now if I can play with her.” The determined first grader ran toward his classmate.

“Imagine that you have only six months to live; what do you do?”

“Then I will live my life to the fullest, checking off things from my bucket list, without thinking what others might say,” Mia replied as blindly as she was posed with the question.

“Let’s do that then!” exclaimed Sherry.

“Why such a hurry?” Mia questioned without lifting her eyes off from the phone.

“Because today my doctor told that in less than six months the tumor in my brain is going to win my life completely.”

“You look ravishing.”

“Really? You do know that we are not going to happen, don’t you Dave?”, smiled Kate teasing him.

“I know. But I wish I didn’t!” sighed Dave.

Lost #FiveSentenceFiction 8

She ceased to exist long before anyone realized.

Bit by bit, she changed – her humming, playfulness – it’s all part of maturity, concluded everyone. Her monotonous smile – oh, that’s just how it is, as you grow up and get busy with life, trivial things are lost and forgotten. Look at her, the graceful lady she has become, putting others ahead of her, always thoughtful!

No one realized that she ceased to exist altogether, a stranger to herself!

She will object, but she did invite me in. No one ever looks out for me, yet I am there for her, always.

She doesn’t want me now, though, I’m the lone witness of her suffering, her companion when the world turns its back on her. Nevertheless, she tries to get rid of me.

I wonder if it is her suffocated sniffles or my own strangled whimpers that will finally be heard!
