Rain #SoulfulSunday

I love rain. I have been in love with rain forever. Even then, when we were harassed by the rain during the Kerala monsoon season.

I don’t like getting drenched in the rain. However, I love the gentleness of the drizzle, the pitter-patter of the incessant rain showers, the downpour and its rage dancing in my courtyard.

I listen to the stories they share each and every time. I hear them clearly. Some of those make me smile, laugh, even shed a tear at times.

Dark clouds aren’t a sign of depression to me. It’s the beginning of unloading burden to the earth. The sky after harboring all those thoughts from all over the world deserves to share her stories of truth or dare with the earth.

Like we all do.

Only a dark cloud can cause a shower and later create a rainbow.

I will continue to love the rain even without the promise of a rainbow. You will too if you can hear the poem the rain recites, if you cherish those droplets that soothe the skin gently, if the dark clouds and the drizzle that follow tickles your mind and thoughts as much as it does for me.

I am forever in love with the rain!

  1. Loved your post, Vinitha. It made me realise, how, with time, we change so much in our response to things around us. I mean, in my growing up years in the hills where we used to have 10 out of 12 months that were rainy I’ve had my fair share of rain-soaked walks, which, then. were the most common thing for us, as we trudged uphill to school to be in time for Assembly. Rains were a part and parcel of our lives and getting soggy feet wasn’t anything unusual. Years later, when I left home, I yearned for the rains while getting scorched in the Calcutta summer heat. In my hostel days, for some reason, fresh downpours always brought along with them the nostalgia of home.

Now, I still love the heavy downpours in Bangalore, and that fresh smell of wet soil that wafts through the breeze afterwards. But, lately, its’ the non-stop grey skies that are doing my head in. 😀

  2. I too love the rains, VIni, but I hadn’t given it a thought until now that the rain recites poems and unburdens its heart. That is such a beautiful thought!
I too prefer looking at the rain from indoors, listening to its pitter patter or sometimes to the anger it tries to express.
