It was an accident—stumbling upon my draft folder in Medium. Lucky that I did though, as just last week I had hastily jotted down a piece while I was out, fully intending to publish it later that day.

Like most pieces in that particular folder, this one too would’ve been destined to live a life of eternity in there, until this morning when I accidentally opened the draft section and found the post smiling back at me. It was a short piece with a photo already added, ready to be published. Though I was not exactly impressed with my writing, I quickly proofread it and, without wasting a second, hit publish.
I am grateful I did.
With that action, the number of posts in my draft folder decreased from 104 to 103.
As I scrolled through the list, I encountered pieces—some half-written, some fully developed—from last year, two years ago, and even further back. Some of these I had initially intended to publish immediately. How had I overlooked them? It’s astonishing to realize that what feels like yesterday was actually two years ago.
This discovery got me thinking – the stories tucked away in my draft folder paint different pictures of me – the one who creates and forgets, the one who is unable to finish the story, the one who keeps circling the same loop. Funny, only I get to read that. More often than not, none of them get a read – not the drafts or the life hiding in the draft section.
But now, I’m determined to tackle that backlog. I aim to bring down that list at least by half in the coming days.
Let’s see where this journey takes me!

I guess we’re all the same! I have folders and folders of drafts, images etc! 🙂

haha, I can relate! I have multiple folders, and folders titled -drafts’ and ‘to sort’ -that i have not even opened in almost forever! Good reminder, like I aspire to reach Inbox Zero in this lifetime, perhaps ‘Draft purge’ should be another aspiration too.

I don’t even have a folder for them – just a deep, dark drawer.

You have done an act of kindness to your drafts section by setting one of the 104 drafts free. With this, I fully believe that the incident of the previous week when you weren’t able to come up with a post is going to be a thing of the past. Your next 103 weeks are sorted now 🙂
