It Rained Yesterday #Poem

Rain is a feeling,
gentle and sweet,
even if it is
mere raindrops
flirting
with your windowpane.
It fills your soul
with tingling warmth,
a sensation
only rain can evoke.

It empties
the void,
inviting nostalgia
into the crevices
of your mind.
Rain is
meant to be
felt,
with passion,
every now and then.

It rained this weekend. The week began with scattered droplets, teasing us with the memory of rain — something mostly absent this past year.

Droplets on the window of the car
Rainbow!

By midweek, hope stirred as the weather forecasters’ promises seemed within reach. We woke to wet roads and more raindrops on our doorstep.

Rainbow makes everything so beautiful, isn’t it?

It was more than just drops on Wednesday. A soothing sight — rainwater pooling outside — greeted us on our evening walk.

After the wind and rain

All through Wednesday night and into Thursday, it drizzled. Rain evokes a multitude of nostalgic layers in me.

It was a beautiful evening

There’s something cleansing about rain, isn’t there?

  1. Ah, rains!

Loved that little piece of rainbow you caught on camera, and also the blazing orange sky. I love the rains, particularly when I don’t have to step outdoors. 🙂

  2. Such a gentle rain. This isn’t a Texas rain, is it? 🙂

I still laugh, thinking of people who come here from California to experience their first REAL thunderstorm. It’s like watching someone experiencing snow for the first time – but with a side of absolute terror.

  3. “It empties the void..,” Wow! Never heard such a true description of ‘Rain’, Vinitha. I love the fragrance the first showers bring after a hot summer and I do ‘feel it with passion!’

  4. I love the rains. Mumbai being my hometown, rainy season is my favourite time of the year. Loved your beautiful poem, raindrops flirting with the windowpanes, loved these lines.

  5. Beautiful photos, Vinitha. I love the after-rain evening sky around dusk. Rain has the tendency of bringing out the poetic side of us but in places where rain is scanty. This used to happen to me in the UK but with the (rare) sunshine days 🙂
