We Are Okay

A lot is going on, isn’t it?
Around us.
In this world.
In our lives.
So much is going on.

And yet —
we are breathing,
we are alive,
amidst uncertainty,
amidst fragility,
we are
still here.

Sometimes,
telling myself it’s all okay
feels foolish —
a fragile thread of
hope
dangling so I won’t
let go.

But perhaps
that is
hope’s purpose —
to leave
just enough strength,
just enough courage,
to hold on
a little longer.

So I say it again —
we are okay.
And no matter what,
we will be okay.
I believe this
for everyone’s sake.

It doesn’t erase
the problems
that strangle us daily,
but belief itself
is a quiet fix, isn’t it?
a steadying hand
when uncertainty declares war.

The world’s troubles,
so many of them
man-made,
feel trivial
in their origins,
yet so severe
in their reach.

I pray for days
when uncertainty will not
define
a stranger’s life.
When the outside offers
some measure
of stability.

Until then,
we keep it
alive within.

This morning,
I write my gratitude list.

Waking at five,
choosing to rise,
not turn away
from the day.

Planning the morning
in my bullet journal.

Tea — always tea —
the faithful guest
on my happy list.

Three new plants
greening our space.

A softer summer sun,
not as gentle as I’d like,
but kinder
than last week.

And while I
write
my gratitude,
I see how
the mind
gathers
small rays of joy
from moments
already gone.

For a breath,
the rising grocery prices,
the endless whatnots,
retreat
from my thoughts.

And I know —
I’m okay.
For now,
that’s enough

  1. I wrote you a poem, here, in response – but it disappeared (WordPress ate it, along with my login) ephemeral as our brief lives, themselves. 🙂 Beautiful thoughts you shared, here, Vinitha.

  2. Yes, there are days I simply give thanks for being alive. And then there’s all those things you mentioned in your beautiful poem. We are indeed okay and must speak out on behalf of those who aren’t!
