Everyday Stories

Earlier this month, I decided to write and publish daily. Although I didn’t publish every day, I wrote almost every day. When I first set out to write with the intention of publishing — beyond poetry and fiction — it felt like an immense task.

An impossible one.

But as I kept writing day after day, I realized something important. There is so much to write about. To think about. To share.

I started noticing more “write-worthy” snippets in my day. Most of them are nothing remarkable, yet they can’t be dismissed as unremarkable either.

The significance of writing daily is that it has given me a new direction. I am noticing my days through a different lens. I’m seeing stories that I wouldn’t have before.

Our daily lives consist of so many little stories, don’t they?

When we rush through life, we hardly notice any of them. But when we pause, even briefly, the stories stand out for us to savor.

Lately, I’ve been noticing these snippets of stories everywhere. And perhaps that’s the real gift of writing daily — not the number of pages filled, but the moments noticed, the ordinary made meaningful.

What about you? Do you find little stories tucked into your everyday life?

  1. Of course, our daily lives do consist of many stories, lots of them and I agree that they are all worth writing because when we write, we go through several emotions – both pleasant and sad – but for sure, they end up inspiring and enlightening us. Thanks for this motivating piece of writing, Vinitha!

    1. My experience has been that when we pause long enough to see the stories hidden in our daily lives, it transforms the way we live — into something slower, gentler, more mindful. A meditative experience. But we’re so used to going through the motions that we often forget to pause and reflect.

Now, whenever I feel like I have nothing to write about, I stop and look around. I pause, reflect, and notice — and every time, it becomes a learning experience. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Madhavi.
