Days once familiar, no longer here
faded elsewhere,
ridden with caution.
Faces not many appear, neither are welcomed,
shaded with woes,
hidden behind masks.
A new world, bugs roam freely,
squashed like bugs, meet your fate,
if wander in the streets, mankind afraid.
This new world, an ailing one
bearing many angsts,
to leave behind.
A new world, a healing one,
sharing the hope
of, returning to the days once familiar.
Days once familiar, remembered dearly.
Days once familiar, a longing in million hearts.

This subject matter reflects the current troubles well. My favorite stanza is the one about the faces. It is sad how we feel we have to avoid each other like we all have the plague, because any of us might.

You did a great job making the internal rhyme feel natural by rhyming words that were surprising, such as ailing/healing. I also liked the juxtaposition of “an ailing one” and “a healing one”. The way you phrased it highlighted the idea that through all of this there is hope.

This is the right time for a melancholy poem like this. I really liked the haunting first line.

This is a feeling so many of us are experiencing in some way right now! I liked the specific details you added: masks and bugs roaming freely. Around me it’s the birds who seem to be taking over and enjoying the spaces humans aren’t using. If you write again about what we’re going through now, it’d be great to see more of those specific details and objects you see in your particular perspective!

A beautiful elegy to normality (if we can even talk of normal anymore). It expressed feelings I’m sure we are all experiencing right now. Thank you for creating ❤️
