Wings of Freedom #FictionMonday #ProsePoem

It wasn’t the cage. There was no cage. In fact, there were no roof or walls.

It isn’t always the cage that holds one back.

Neither were there any shackles. At least nothing was visible to the naked eye.

But she felt chained, with no room even to wiggle around. Surrounded by an invisible cage and chains. Is it all an illusion?

She decides that she can fly away, spreading her invisible wings wide. Let the wind guide her wings.

Everything was far away—the cage, the familiar distraught, the anguish that always chained her down—everything was far, far away.

She knew that if she gave them permission, they would appear around her, in an instant.

So she decided that she was free.

Free to choose her life or be caged.

Free to explore or be suffocated.

She decided she is free. Free, to decide for herself. Free, to create her own path.

  1. Loved this Vinitha. This is such a powerful thought – to decide to be free. It’s like getting to choose what one wants to be.
