And So It Goes

Sometimes I get attached—
or should I say, obsessed?
To an idea,
or perhaps a passing thought,
a whisper of yore.

It clings to me—
or maybe, I cling to it—
completely,
wholly.

My mind stays tethered,
trying to connect
to its fragile thread,
weaving a new world around it,
leaving everything else unreal,
just a figment of imagination,
until this idea takes on
a life of its own—
on the pages of my book,
as a poem.

And I breathe again,
searching for the next spark
of an idea
to connect with,
to write about.

And so it goes,
on and on.

I understand this feeling. I write it into a notebook now, but sometimes the idea doesn’t see the light of day!
