Beyond Scribbles

I’d rather not ignore
my intuition,
for every time I did so
in the past,
the consequences were
rather unpleasant.  

Yet, there were times
when I heard the voice
so clearly,
I knew deep inside
that nothing good
could transpire
from dismissing it. 

But I did dismiss it,
against my better judgment,
because other voices
carried more weight, 
and my instinct drowned
in the chaos. 

Unease settled within me
whenever I abandoned
what I knew
without knowing how I knew it. 

Of course, everything went
wrong
when I turned away
from my gut feeling, 

But somewhere within,
I knew that was going to happen,
didn’t I? 

And so, I remember
so clearly
the moments
I chose not to listen. 

Perhaps intuition
is not a random feeling
passing through us.

Perhaps it is
all we have noticed,
all we have endured,
all we have learned,
speaking before
the mind finds the words.

I learned this
the hard way—

when something within me whispers,
I no longer ask it
to prove itself.

I pause.
I listen.

And this time,
I do not dismiss myself.
