We dream about writing, we attempt our few words, we procrastinate, then dream some more about writing and finally we write. We made a blog and pour out our thoughts, how deep or insignificant or thought provoking, or meaningful – it doesn’t matter. We did it. We wrote a lot and put it out there for the public to see, to read and to comment.
And we wait…

.. We waited so long and who read? Those of who we forced into reading. Those who we tricked into exclaiming that, “OH!! You have a blog?!” And some commented after we tirelessly coerced them into doing so.
And we waited…
.. We waited for more comments to flow in. We waited to hear people talking about what we wrote about, without us talking about it first. Who knew it was going to be a long wait! We didn’t!
All the wait was in vain, when there wasn’t any more reads or comments following. The ‘writer-self’ was a celebrity only to our self, not to the world – the harsh reality settled in. The bitter truth stared at us, as the absence of comments. The absence of something can be so profoundly heart-numbing, we never knew that before. We struggled, we questioned our ability to write. We went back to procrastination. We even quit dreaming about writing. We stopped waiting…
.. And then the dreams followed us. We befriended them once again. We went in search of words once again. We attempted to write again. We hit the publish button, doubtful and determined, no stepping back this time. We made friends with those who love to write just like us, a little skeptical, a little hesitant, and we found out that they are there – when we hit the rock called writer’s block or we take a break because we think that we are not good enough writers. They support us when we are in need of support. They leave you alone when we need to get in touch with our solitude. They ask us how are you when we need to hear that. They send us virtual hugs when we long for a touch. And we feel that we are not alone in this rough patch of the journey to be called as a writer. We have friends, like minded friends. We are happy. We write again. And we wait…
.. We receive a like, a comment from unexpected sources, when we least expect it. We weren’t even waiting. We just hit the publish button. We are glad. We are dancing and celebrating. We are writing…
… And that’s why we blog.

Super! We always look for praise, comments, shares, follows etc etc. Though it does impact our motivation, we still love to express what we feel and continue to pen our feelings.

This is so so true! I remember, initially i used to keep checking every now and then to see if I have a new comment. Now I know I will write, no matter what!! I’m so happy to be part of the blogging community 🙂

I have started blogging 6 years ago without knowing about the blogging community. I wasn’t aware of the benefits of comments. It’s only since last juneI became consistent blogger, reaping the benefits of a blogger by actually connecting with other bloggers. Comments are so inspiring, aren’t they? But then writing is rewarding with or without comments. 🙂

True, true and true. That’s exactly why we blog! I read this quote somewhere and I would say it applies here : ” Why I write? Because creating something that didn’t exist before is as close as magic as we can get”
Lovely post about writing 🙂

Very true! We write in anticipation, we are hungry of compliments but even if we don’t get it, we write. We write because we want to. 🙂

Yes, I have gone through those thoughts and feelings too, though ultimately I write because I feel compelled to. Of course, a big bonus is for admirers, secret or otherwise, who lace their sweet-filled comments (usually) behind for us to read…. may you have many of those as I have enjoyed your writing Vinitha as of late! 😉 ❤

Oh we write for all this and more. Glad to know that you came back to the original conclusion that we write for ourselves 🙂

Writing for the self is the most sensible form of writing, isn’t it? 🙂 Thank you for stopping by, Shailaja. ❤

Good one. I think bloggers have all felt this at one time or another. I have come to the conclusion that I write to enjoy the process first and if I get support and encouragement, that’s the icing on the cake as the cliche goes.

Very true, Cathy. Writing for the self makes it enjoyable, the encouragement is truly the icing on the cake like you said. 🙂

Though it is a prose but poetry tinkled in every word of this post. So true it is in talking about each of us why do we blog. I have gone through same emotions and you have known that.

Rightly said. I guess all writers go through something similar. Maybe in the final analysis, all writers write for themselves first and foremost. Keep writing, Vinitha 🙂

Vinitha, I love your words always. Arnt they written in a cute fashion? Short sentences, comas and full stops come frequently. It is easy to read, smooth to understand. No long sentences, which have to be read twice before understanding.
Claps and Hugs for a beautiful blogger !!
