The Creative Parents

I never considered myself as the creative type, even when I used to scribble down pieces of poems on my notebook. That was just fragments of my imagination finding its way out of my mind onto a paper, that’s how I treated them and me. I was never good at making crafts. The truth is, I never tried to make one. I liked to do sketches, nothing profound worth mentioning to the world, but that was it.

And then I became a mother. That was the beginning of everything. I started doing a lot of things which I never knew I could, nor did I imagine in my wildest of dreams! Like singing lullabies to Kanna since he was a newborn, still continuing to do it, only because he asks me to. Yes, I have one trusty follower for my voice. 🙂

Since his playschool days, I have been doing many crafts with my kid just for him. I was amazed to see a school bus emerging right in front of my eyes, made with my own hands. We made the solar system with paper. And maps to show places visited.

If all that was for the school, there is a lot more creativity I learned after becoming a mother, inspired by my child. Creative ways to shush my child to sleep, to play with him, to make him giggle, to making up silly stories, and what not. I am sure every parent knows what I am talking about. We may not be entitled as the best creative person as per the regular criteria but when it comes to parenthood, parents are creative all the way!

  2. Yup.. I truly believe that parents can be very creative.
    For example,
My mum knows how to disguise cauliflower into something tasty looking.
She also knows how to make sure I’ve finished my dabba during the break.
Plus, she can get me to fall in love with her chocolate cake every time she makes it!

Hats off to the creativity of a parent! 🙂

  3. That is so true, Vinitha. At times, we never realise what all we are capable of, until someone comes along, and taps out our potential! In your case, Kanna! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Sid. Yes, as parents we find a lot of new talents in us! It’s simply amazing how we manage to learn these new talents without complaining with the arrival of a little one. 🙂
