Sometimes, when I stumble over answering a simple question, I know it is time to pause and reflect. This was one such question.
Where in my life am I craving steadiness right now?
I don’t pretend for a second that every aspect of my life is steady and that this is why I am unable to answer. It is more that I am terrified of what the question might bring up.
Like sometimes, when I don’t write my morning pages, I realize it is because I am avoiding certain conversations with myself.
Well, if I am being honest, I crave steadiness in the way I take care of myself—in doing the things that help me feel better and more like myself. Since summer break began in June, I have been neglecting many of the things I usually enjoy doing.
Perhaps the answer lies in the small rituals that make me feel like I belong to myself and remind me of the importance of returning to them. Writing my morning pages, reading, journaling, and making space for creativity may seem like small things, but they help me feel grounded, present, and more at home within myself.
Focusing on these creative rituals would be a start.
Perhaps steadiness does not mean never losing my rhythm. Perhaps it simply means knowing that I can return to it and pick up where I left off.
For now, returning will be enough.
