I haven’t LOLed until now. Does that sound strange to you? Of course, I laugh out loud. But I haven’t typed LOL in a chat or anywhere else, yet. I go with the smiley instead of LOLing. 🙂 I have seen LOLs in status messages, comments, chats, text messages and everywhere. But none of these inspired me to type those three letters anytime.
I guess it’s because I have seen LOLs being used inappropriately. That just shook my likeness towards LOL. But then I never was a fan of LOL. This is the first time I am using LOL (that too so many times) and this might be the last time I will be using LOL. And I am not laughing a bit.

I know people who don’t even know the correct words for LOL. One thinks it is “lots of laughs” which I have not corrected and the other thought it was “lots of love” that one I corrected as it was being used inapropriately thinking they were sending love when it was being interpreted as laughing ? i much prefer smileys ?

I turn to google to find out what each of these acronyms mean. Because as you pointed out we can interpret them in our own ways. When misused the meaning changes completely. smileys are much easier. And now we have emoticons for all emotions. 🙂

Hey, Vinitha, I never LOL either! Never have I done it and I don’t think I ever will. I send a smiley, instead. I prefer that to LOL. I might giggle while reading something funny, but never laugh out loud. So, there goes…..you do have company there! 🙂

I use lol and LOL too most often.. 😀 and use smileys too 😉 Not in my posts though.. but then, I don’t think I type it when I don’t lol 😀

Yes, I do use it and I do laugh out loud. In fact, once I tweeted – when I type LOL, I actually laugh out loud. But, I don’t roll on floor, when I type ROFL. I just laugh louder. 😛

I don’t think I’ve ever written LOL. Sometimes I will speak to Josh in acronyms, but that’s just to mock all the kids who walk through our house saying things like “OMG, ROFL.”

Yes, I do LOL! And most times I really am laughing out loud. I started using LOL back in 1994 on a game I played, so it made my character do the action too. I still use it to this day, with its original intent, most often.
